 "Restoring and Preserving America's Tribute to Her Marines"

Rising from hallowed ground on Arlington Ridge overlooking the nation's capital, the Marine Corps War Memorial and its monument is; "Dedicated to the Marine dead of all wars and the comrades of other services who fell fighting beside them since 10 November 1775". It is an endearing symbol of America's resolve; a tribute to those who have cherished country about life, and icon for Marines, past and present.
  Now more than one half of a century old, the 7.5 acre Memorial and its monument require the completion of various projects related to a previous rehabilitation, conceptual planning and design a projects to provide improved visitor services, and ongoing projects to provide long-term maintenance and preservation of the Memorial and Memorial grounds. The National Park Service (NPS), who manage the will Memorial, invited the Marine Corps War Memorial Foundation to establish a Friends Program* that will enable the NPS to address these needs based on on-site observations and the following NPS statements;
  1. The NPS completed a preliminary rehabilitation of the Memorial and grounds totally $3.3 million in 2006. The Memorial and grounds do not support by high-quality Park experience for the 1.2 million visitors to the Memorial and Memorial grounds each year.
  2. The next phase of the improvements to the Memorial will be focused on long-term protection, maintenance and preservation of the sculpture, the sculpture base, improvements associated Plaza, military reviewing stand, walkways, the parade grounds and improving public access and the visitors experience.
  3. In addition, there is a significant need for a long-term preservation and maintenance support for the Memorial and Memorial grounds.
  Dedicated in 1954, the cost for the construction was born by active and reserve duty Marines, contributing 94% of the total cost. Paid for and revered by Marines, whether out of obligation, devotion or sense of duty, we as Marines are responsible for the preservation of this "Living Heritage"** of the United States Marine Corps.
